ELEPHUNK :

Elephunk is the third album by The Black Eyed Peas, first released in 2003. It was their first commercially successful album and their first album to feature their new female vocalist, Stacy Ferguson (a.k.a. Fergie). Singles released from Elephunk included "Where Is the Love?", "Shut Up", "Hey Mama" and "Let's Get It Started". Many of its songs became popular through being featured in advertisements; "Let's Get Retarded" was re-done and renamed "Let's Get It Started" for the commercials for the 2004 NBA Playoffs, The song Hands Up was put in the movies Rebound (film) and Taxi (film), while "Hey Mama" became something of a plot-point within Garfield: The Movie and "The Boogie That Be" was featured in several iPod commercials, as well as being featured in the movie The Rundown (staring The Rock).

Jalsa’s free shows on 50th day

Pawan Kalyan’s Jalsa is doing good business at the box office. To overcome piracy and also to cash in on the hype, the production banner ensured that the film hit more than 1000 screens in the first week. First week gross created records in the industry and the run continued at a good pace in the weeks to come. Now in the seventh week, the film is still giving tough competition to new releases.

The movie seems to be doing well abroad as well. Jalsa is expected to complete 50 days in two centres – New Jersey and Atlanta. Overseas distributors Tolly2Holly are so happy that they are running freeshows in most of the locations between May 17 and 26 to celebrate the 50-day run of Power Star’s Jalsa.

Kareena says no to Pawan Kalyan

Kareena Kapoor has slammed rumors of her acting in a Telugu movie. Tollywood was abuzz with the rumor that the Kareena was being roped in by S J Suryah’s Puli opposite Pawan Kalyan. In the midst of fighting off rumours of anorexia and weight-related disorders that have dogged her since she achieved her impossible 49 kg frame, Kareena dismissed any possibility of her acting in a Telugu film.

Saying she was far too busy with her Bollywood assignments to even think of acting in any regional film, leave alone Telugu film. The actress also added that she would not be interested in doing Telugu films even in the future. S.J Suryah has been searching far and wide for a Bollywood actress to play the lead opposite Pawan Kalyan in his ambitious venture.

Shilpa Shetty visits Tirumala with NRI beau

Shilpa Shetty with her father Surendra Shetty and friend Raj Kundra come out of Tirumala temple after having a darshan of Lord Venkateswara on Monday. Speaking to media, the actress says, “I woke up for the 3 am darshan and I haven’t had a wink of sleep since so long. But Lord Balaji has been very kind to me, so I forget all the hardships involved in the climb. I have been doing it without fail for the past several years now.”

Looking at Shilpa, one would find it hard to believe that she has a weakness for sweets. Her mother says, “She can eat as many sweets and savouries as she wants, and she won’t put on any weight. We are just the opposite. But then, she has a very strict diet regimen and she works out rigorously at her own gym.” Shilpa adds, “Trust me, there’s nothing more I’d like than to dig into a plate of a typical South Indian thali, complete with the mandatory halwa.”

Prabhas’s hard work unnoticed

Puri Jagannadh, who always takes special interest in presenting his hero in new style, tried to show Prabahs in a different manner in Bujjigadu. Prabhas bagged acclaims for his performance in this film, but his new 6-pack look gone unnoticed. Poor Prabhas. After doing killer workouts and getting the slim, lean look, the audience didn’t like him in Bujjigadu.

And producers don’t give a damn about how you feel, they want results that please the masses. So Prabhas is now asked to put on weight now. It is said that now he has been working hard to gain the weight again.

Chiranjeevi to take political plunge in August

Putting an end to the suspense over Chiranjeevi's plans to join politics, his aide on Today announced that the actor is likely to take the plunge in August this year. "He will definitely respect the wishes of the people and enter politics. He has a clear and firm view. He himself will announce the decision," Chiranjeevi's brother-in-law and noted film producer Allu Aravind told reporters here on Saturday.

Asked why the actor was taking so much time to announce the launch of the much-awaited political party, he said it was justified. "Politics is too big an issue. And he is taking it up. I think it is reasonable on his part to take some time. I think he is likely to announce the decision in August," Aravind said.

"He would not take decisions in haste. Whatever he does, he will do it with caution and after weighing the pros and cons. We have waited for him this far, can't we wait for another couple of months?" he asked. Aravind is considered the main force behind Chiranjeevi's political entry and is said to be involved in the nitty gritty of launching the party. For several months now, political circles in the state are abuzz with reports of the matinee idol's possible foray into politics.

TDP’s Rath enters Chiranjeevi’s den

The Telugu Desam supremo, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu’s Mee Kosam yatra entered megastar Chiranjeevi’s bastion on Monday. Mr Naidu, who is on 150-day long state-wide tour, is now covering the coastal Andhra region. He has already completed 43 days of his five-month long journey. On Monday night his political rath made its way into West Godavari district, which is Chiranjeevi’s home district. The megastar hails from Mogalthur in West Godavari.

As Mr Naidu is going to tour extensively in the west and east Godavari districts for eight days, his party workers are eagerly awaiting people’s response to the rath yatra in the backdrop of the actor’s plans to float a political party in the next couple of months. These two districts are believed to be the strongholds of the matinee idol as people belonging to his social group are in large numbers.

Incidentally, the TD too has a strong following in both the districts. But the megastar’s plans to launch a political outfit are already creating tremors among the TD workers in Konaseema region of east Godavari district. The former minister, Mr Kotagiri Vidyadhara Rao, who represented TD from Chintalapudi constituency in West Godavari before his expulsion from the party, is adopting a soft approach towards Chiranjeevi.

TD East Godavari wing president, Mr Jyothula Nehru, too left the party to join hands with Chiru. There are rumours in Telugu Desam circles that as soon as the megastar floats his party there might be a larger impact on the TD cadre in the Godavari districts. But the resurgence of the TD in the just-concluded by-elections has given fresh political energy to the party high command and the cadres. At this juncture party senior leaders feel that Chiranjeevi’s yet-to-be launched party may not have any influence on the electoral prospects of Telugu Desam.

Balakrishna plans Panduranga temple

Sneha, it seems, is having a good time in the US, where she is shooting. The cheerful actress, who has carved a place for herself in both Tollywood and Kollywood through her excellent performances, was recently spotted watching her last Telugu film Pandurangadu with fans in New Jersey. The actress, it is said, was seen sporting a big smile as eager fans kept requesting her for autographs.

Meanwhile, actor Balakrishna, who plays the lead along with Sneha in Pandurangadu, has said that he will erect a temple for Lord Panduranga in Vijayawada if the film does well at the box office. Now, whether the film will succeed at the box office and whether devotees will get another temple to offer prayers to Lord Panduranga is something only time can tell!

Sunil - Interview

No emotions are easier to evoke than fear and pity. But comedy is hard. It takes great and correct timing to tell a joke and get a round of applause. Sunil has been here for quite some time but his struggle to make it the film industry began ages back.

Sunil is polite and distant with strangers but during an interview, he compulsively is open and forthright. His language is endearing and appears honest. His latest film Andala Ramudu is running to packed houses and it's his time of glory has begun. There is only thing he keeps making it clear that he is a comedian and he will be one. He wants to continue doing small roles.

Venu Madhav after acting in Hungama and Brahmanandam also after acting as a hero reportedly said they will nevr try a comedy hero's role again whatsoever. Ask SV Krishna Reddy and he says the reason is that the comedian loses his importance the moment he acts in a full fledged hero oriented film and they became the character thereby losing their identity. But if he does his original tiny act he is recognised for what he is. But see what Sunil has got to say on this, "A comedian can last long and his life span on the screen can be extended by updating the skills and improvising performances. But a comedy hero can last only two or three years. I will not work as a comedy hero anymore but will give it a thought if only the story is the hero and i am the comedian. The filmmakers spend so much money and invest ona hero like me , i can't afford to see it not run. I don't want anyone to suffer on account of me. So may families are dependent on this one film. I can still work in movies and make money but what about others."

Sunil adds, "I am saying this because i feel it's difficult for a comedian to sustain interest amongst audiences for a long time.. the story should work in his favour. Tell him about Rajendra Prasad's career and he says he's just not an exception. "I have never considered him as a comedy hero, for me he is alawys a hero. He is exceptional in doing tragedy scenes. He is actually a hero but comedy dominates in his films. Rajendra Prasad is a great actor capable of doing all the navarasas."

About his commitment to work the actor adds, "Once i take up a job i don't rest till it's completed. For me it's a responsibility...it's a matter of honour and pride. Once i have been narrated my role i don't even enter the director's department. In Bhimavaram there is a theatre called Nataraj and listening to Chiranjeevi's songs i would dance outside. I got many a occasion in the past five years to dance in the films but i didn't dare because of the fear of overcating. My mother always said that what ever you learn never gose waste and that i have used those moments for this film has proved her words right. It gives me great satisfaction to say that my film is running in the same theatre where i longed to get inside to watch Chiranjeevi's film once."

Ask him about the working experience in Andala ramudu and Sunil says, "The toughest job was completing the film. I remember shooting for Bommarillu, Boss and Stalin and then jumping over to Boss in the same Annapurna studio. I worked day and night and the long wait looks so fruitfull now. Aarti Agarawal has done a tremendous job and she is the soul of the film."

Bhoomika blooms where she is planted

A glance into her sparkling eyes and her cute face is enough to makes guys go mad. Yes, Bhumika Chawla has become the darling of young hearts following her splendid performances in reel. She has left her footprints in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil films, and now set to make a mark in Punjabi films too. She is excited about her new Telugu film titled ‘Maya Bazaar’, where she acts with Raja. Now, she tells more about the film, her experiences and much more.

Excerpts from the interview:

Tell us about your Telugu film ‘Maya Bazaar’.

At first, I was not sure whether to take up the film or not, as I have not done such roles in Telugu earlier. However, producer Satyanarayana Garu convinced me to give the nod. I began liking it after reading the script a couple of times. It is not a love story but a fun film. I play the role of a sweet, simple and lively girl who loves helping others.

How was it working with director Indraganti Mohan Krishna, actor S P Balasubrahmanyam and co-star Raja?

It was great working with them. Balasubrahmanyam is a legendary singer and hear him sing on the sets was a treat. He even used to make us laugh aloud with hilarious one-liners. It was fun working with Raja. He is a hard working guy.

How did you stepped into tinsel town?

I used to travel a lot since my father was in the army. At first, I came to Mumbai to stay for three weeks but ended up staying for years. I tried my hands in many things before taking up acting. I took up modeling, did a part-time job at Mumbai's Prithvi theatre, tried sale job in a company and even worked in hotel. As fate has it, I succeeded in my fourth screen test and thus never looked back.

Do you feel comfortable working in the South?

I have a special attachment to the South, and maybe it is because I started my career here. People in the north asked me if I were doing a Madrasi film when I first stepped into films but I told them that I was working for a Telugu film, which is a different language. It was tough initially since the language was strange. I thought of returning back home on the fourth day of shooting but my mom convinced me to complete the project. At the end of the day, all the trouble vanished and my dream came true. Fame and fame came and there was no stopping since then.

How about your experience in Tollywood?

‘Yuvakudu’ happened to me when I had no knowledge about films and then I went on to play college girl in ‘Khushi’. I was matured by the time I did ‘Okkadu’ with Mahesh Babu. I played the role of a mentally challenged girl in NTR Jr’s film ‘Simhadri’ and then ‘Samba’ with the same actor. Then films like ‘Missamma’, ‘Naa Autograph’ and Vaasu’ happened. Then I got the opportunity to work with megatar Chiranjevi in ‘Jai Chiranjeeva’.

Could you tell about your co-stars Nagarjuna, Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Mahesh Babu and NTR?

I have good rapport with all my co-stars. I started my career with Nagarjuna’s family. They all are very good. Chiranjeevi’s energy, dedication and enthusiasm are amazing. He still dances very well in spite of the growing age. Venkatesh is a complete gentleman and my parents like his inclination towards spirituality. Mahesh Babu is a quite yet hardworking man and NTR is a good dancer.

How was your experience in Tamil films?

My Tamil debut film ‘Rojakootam’ is still close to my heart. We had lots of fun shooting for the film. I have no regrets though ‘Sillunu Oru Kathal’ failed, as I enjoyed working for it, and most importantly, people liked my character. It was great working with Surya and Jyothika. You know, Surya is such a humble man.

What are the Hindi films you are working on?

I am working on ‘Benaam’ and ‘Mahatma versus Gandhi’. I play the role of Gandhi's daughter-in-law in ‘Mahatma versus Gandhi’. I also have a Punjabi film directed by Deepak Garewal. It features Om Puri and Gurdas Mann in the lead roles and 80 percent of its shooting was done in Canada. The rest of the film will be shot in India this month.

How was it working with Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Dil Jo Bhi Kahen’ and ‘Family’, Salman Khan in ‘Tere Naam’ and Abhishek Bachchan in ‘Run’?

Working with Amitabh Bachchan was a dream come true. It was a great experience working with him. He has grown old yet he is still humorous, punctual and energetic. Newcomers will get lots of inspiration by just watching him. It was great working with Salman in ‘Tere Naam’. He is giving, caring and helpful unlike his bad public image. He is a good human being. Working with Abhishek is also fun. You know, he makes pranks on the sets.
